Spectronics Corporation, world leader in ultraviolet technology since 1955, releases a white paper on improving reliability, cost, and safety in mining industries

Spectronics Corporation, leading manufacturer of preventive maintenance tools across several major industries, has released a free white paper discussing ways in which equipment maintenance and reliability can be drastically improved in the mining industry.

It may surprise many to learn that using poorly maintained equipment not only puts employees in danger, but also the operation at risk for costly breakdowns. When considering the factors that contribute to the wear and tear of equipment, implementing a preventive maintenance program is a budget friendly solution. As hydraulic system failures are the leading cause of breakdowns in many mines, this document explains the financial consequences of injuries related to failing fluid power systems. Learn to catch signs of failure early and to improve the safety of mining employees by downloading this free white paper. You will also learn:

  • The top priorities for global mining companies
  • Improving equipment reliability
  • How fluid systems work
  • How finding and fixing leaks saves money
  • What fluid injection injuries are
  • The financial and emotional consequences of fluid injection injuries
  • 3 ways maintenance is typically done
  • How to catch early signs of system failure

This free white paper includes tips on how to improve the reliability of equipment through the use of preventive maintenance, increase of employee safety, and decrease annual costs. Spectronics Corporation Forms Global Strategic Partnership with Quaker Chemical Corporation

on Tue, 06/16/2015 - 11:48

Spectronics Corporation has announced a strategic supply/market development agreement with Quaker Chemical Corporation to support Quaker’s soon-to-be announced lines of fire-resistant hydraulic fluids incorporating FluidSafe™, Spectronics’ unique fluorescent safety additive. Spectronics and Quaker Chemical have already been supplying longwall fluids with FluidSafe™ to the Australian market, and the new agreement expands this effort globally.

In line with this partnership, Spectronics will be amalgamating its Alerton International subsidiary with the parent company and moving the FluidSafe™ product line under its Spectroline® brand.

FluidSafe™ is a patented fluorescent dye that is added to hydraulic fluids (fire-resistant as well as mineral oil) to improve system safety and reliability.

FluidSafe™ confirms a fluid injection injury by its bright fluorescent glow under blue light, minimizing surgical intervention

It is uniquely formulated to aid in the quick and effective detection and surgical removal of hydraulic fluid in the event of an accidental high-pressure fluid injection under the skin. With the aid of a SafetyBlu™ inspection lamp, FluidSafe™ also helps reduce the quantity of tissue removal by allowing the determination of injection injury boundaries during surgical intervention. FluidSafe™ also detects leaks in degraded hoses, seals and fittings, thus reducing equipment breakdown, minimizing environmental damage and saving money.

“We are excited to have FluidSafe™ integrated into Quaker Chemical’s offerings to improve safety. This exemplifies Quaker’s commitment and proactive approach to protect workers against onsite injuries and improve equipment reliability, while building on the integrity of its product line,” says Jon Cooper, President of Spectronics.

Spectronics is honored to be recognized as an innovative partner by a leading-edge company such as Quaker Chemical. The incorporation of FluidSafe™ into Quaker’s QUINTOLUBRIC® product line allows users of its fire-resistant fluids in the mining, steel making and automotive industries to capture the safety, reliability and cost-saving benefits of FluidSafe™ without any extra onsite handling.

“The addition of FluidSafe™ to our QUINTOLUBRIC® longwall fluids reinforces our commitment to improving worker safety in the mining industry,” states Kevin Dickey, Quaker’s Global Business Development Manager for Mining. “This revolutionary product remains visible in the tissue for at least 24 hours, assisting medical professionals’ ability to help wounded workers recover maximum functionality and continue their productive lives. Quaker is truly committed at all levels of our organization to develop innovative products for industry that improve workers’ health and safety, while simultaneously enhancing operational efficiency.”

Spectronics is also working with Quaker Chemical to make FluidSafe™ available for use in its mineral oil-based hydraulic fluids.

Headquartered in Westbury, New York, Spectronics Corporation was founded in 1955. The company invented fluorescent leak detection and has been the premier supplier of fluorescent dyes and ultraviolet inspection lamps for 60 years. Spectronics manufactures more than 1,000 different products for hundreds of markets and applications, and has been the worldwide supplier of FluidSafe™ since 2013.
